Over the next week, as we approach our Development Review Board hearing, we thought we'd share some letters in support of Mirror Theater Ltd/GAAR. "A Perfect Blending of Positive Experiences
To The Editor:
I am writing to express my admiration and appreciation for the Greensboro Arts Alliance and Residency for all it does for our community as a whole and specifically for my children.
I understand the planned theater for Greensboro has ignited many strong feelings for some townspeople, just as Circus Smirkus did. What I find incredibly saddening and offensive is the personal attacks against the people involved. Why in this area does it seem that we are so quick to turn on good people that we may have a little difference of opinion with?
My children have been involved with GAAR for four years and nine productions. They consider the people of GAAR to be extended family and some of their very best friends. I cannot begin to explain how personally they take the very rude attacks.
I have read previous letters in this newspaper [Hardwick Gazette] criticizing the use of professional actors and not using local talent. Clearly, that individual hasn’t attended a GAAR performance. The beauty of what they do is a perfect blending of professional actors, musicians, and stage crew with local talent.
My children, at the ages of 15 and 17, have worked with professionals from all over the world. They have invaluable contacts and references, as this is the field they both plan on pursuing. This area does not exactly have many offerings for teenagers, especially if they do not enjoy athletics, hunting, or motorized sports. I can’t even imagine what their teen years would have looked like without the positive experiences that GAAR gives them.
My children’s passion for the theater has turned into paid summer jobs for them with GAAR. Their income, along with the actors, musicians, and stage crew that come for the season, goes back into the local economy. I know that isn’t important for some, but for a working class family such as ours, it is vital. I can’t help but notice that Willey’s is busier than ever this summer and that there are so many fun, unique, interesting, talented people around, thanks, in part, to GAAR and Circus Smirkus. How wonderful for us all.
In closing, I would like to publicly acknowledge Sabra Jones and Charles McAteer for all they have done for this community and for my children, Zachary and Alahni. Please know you have my deepest appreciation, admiration and support.

Over the next week, as we approach our Development Review Board hearing, we thought we'd share some letters in support of Mirror Theater Ltd/GAAR. The third is from Rep. Vicki Strong, a beloved friend of GAAR. Previous letters can be found below. If you would like to add your support, please email us.
"Dear Development Review Board Members,
I am writing to you in support of the endeavors of the organization, GAAR, in your community. Greensboro is a very unique community with a growing cultural and economic environment in the Northeast Kingdom, and as such it is adding a new vitality and some unique opportunities to our area. As a legislator, I have seen firsthand that our area needs economic growth and cultural opportunities, and GAAR is providing both, with the potential to enhance educational programs and jobs to our surrounding towns and schools. I have attended numerous events sponsored by GAAR and have enjoyed the community involvement that I see that includes all ages of participants with many different types of backgrounds.
Greensboro, as a community, is going through many changes with the new organizations and businesses that are making their homes there, but I believe that as we all work together to make these changes constructively, we can encourage these economic and educational opportunities in our area of the state. As we work together to plan for the future, we will ultimately help the coming generations of Vermonters. I am grateful for organizations like GAAR that bring a new energy and expertise to our area of Vermont, and as we embrace the future together, we can bring new cultural and economic opportunities to our unique area of our state and our country. Thank you for your consideration.
Most Respectfully,
Rep. Vicki Strong"

"To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing in support of The Mirror Theater, the new home for the Greensboro Arts Alliance & Residency (GAAR). This project will be of both cultural and economic benefit to Greensboro and Vermont at large.
The Mirror Theater will be used an a performing arts center for the benefit of the public, making performing arts, live theater, concerts, dance programs and other cultural activities more available and more accessible to all. It will provide a venue for educational organizations to offer performing arts programs and for enhancing educational and cultural opportunities for the entire community as well as visitors on a not-for-profit basis. The facility will be made available year-round to local arts organizations and it is anticipated that various area schools and non-profits will utilize the facility.
GAAR, the Mirror Theater’s resident, not-for-profit, theater and performing arts organization, is an asset to our community both culturally and economically. Called “a theater to be reckoned with” by Jim Lowe of The Times Argus, GAAR also employed over sixty Vermonters in the 2015 Summer Season in a variety of capacities, from full-time artists, administrators, and technicians, to part-time box office staffers, carpenters, stage and light crew, and many other jobs. This money is furthermore recycled through the local economy.
We are lucky to have such a gift in our community.
Sincerely,
Clive Gray"
